Ideal for some timely advice and reassurance
Please note: when booking in please enter YOUR CHILD'S name and date of birth rather than your own as this forms the basis of their record. Thank you.
How consultation appointments can help: consultation appointments are an opportunity for you to discuss any concerns you have about your child's communication skills with one of our specialist team. They are useful if you would like some general advice, reassurance or if you're unsure whether your child needs an assessment or referral. Based on the information you give, our Speech and Language Therapist will provide you with some advice and recommend next steps. As parents ourselves we often get asked for advice by fellow parents who just want to check if their child's communication development is going ok, whether they need to get a referral or just to provide a bit of interim advice whilst they are on an NHS waiting list. Consultation appointments are a great way to access that advice and we'd happy to talk to you.
How it works: the appointment will be a discussion via video call (or phone if this isn’t possible) between you and a Speech and Language Therapist. Your child does not need to be present, but don't worry if they are with you in the background. They are charged at £40 and last 20-30 minutes followed by some time once the call has ended for the Speech and Language Therapist to provide some written recommendations/advice. As part of the booking process you will be asked to provide some details about your child, a phone number and email so that we can contact you in the event of a technical issue. Prior to the appointment we will send you details of how to access it, an electronic consent form and an electronic form to gather some background details on your child. The beauty of the online nature of these appointments is that we can offer them to anyone in the UK, although if follow-up appointments are required we may recommend that you access services in your local area.
The next steps: Following the call you will receive a written outline of the advice provided and any appropriate information sheets to accompany this. Whilst a consultation appointment is not a substitute for an initial assessment for children with confirmed communication difficulties, they are really useful as a first step if you are unsure what is needed. We may need to recommend follow-up appointment and/or referral to the NHS if we think your child needs an assessment. If you do require a follow-up assessment and decide to book this in with us, there is a 10% discount available on that assessment appointment. We will also use all the information gained from the consultation appointment to help inform that assessment, meaning that the assessment will take less time and therefore cost less.
